Western Australian Round Postponed
Due to a date clash in the local motorsport scene in Perth, the Western Australian Round of the Australian Tarmac Challenge has been postponed until 2010. The Round will be replaced in the 2009 National Series by the "One Day" event to be held at Lang Lang on November 21.
Whilst extremely disappointed in having to make this decision, we feel it is the right one to make for all competitors given the circumstances of the clash. We would also like to assure our supporters and competitors in WA that the Round will be back in force in 2010.
We would like to thank our WA competitors for their advice and direction on this matter. We assure you that the decision to postpone was not made lightly and we look forward to a sensational WA event in 2010.
ATC NSW concludes with the sound of WRC competitors on the Super Special Stage
Round 2 of the Australian Tarmac Challenge has concluded in Murwillumbah with competitors sampling Rally Australia’s and the WRC Super Special Stage. Later that evening the WRC boys gave it a run, providing plenty of action for competitors as they watched in style from the top floor of the Imperial Hotel above the start line.
The event was a great success with around 60 cars and 90 drivers sampling race tracks, hill climbs and street circuits from Sydney’s Eastern Creek up the North Coast.
Channel Nine’s Karl Stefanovic and Cameron Williams competed in a Nissan 350z Roadster, loving the tight street circuits and the carnival atmosphere along the way.

Dates and information released for 2009 Series - Newsletter 1, 2009
We would like to officially announce the 2009 series - The Australian Tarmac Challenge!
Formerly the Dutton Rally, the Australian Tarmac Challenge (ATC) is the old Dutton you know – but we have had the old girl on the treadmill, down to the plastic surgeon and onto the weight training.
New ownership, new location.
The Australian Tarmac Challenge is located in the Fast Track Australia corporate headquarters at 119 Salmon St Port Melbourne, with our new team as follows:
Anthony Moss – Series Director
Rennie De Maria – Managing Director
Mat Ishac – Series Operations Manager
Mark O’Connor – Technical advisor
Kurt Stiles – Motorsport advisor
Our team will still be assisted by James Taylor (Clerk of Course, Race Solutions), Bruce Foote (Scoring- MDB Consulting) and our many volunteers and officials who make Australian Motorsport possible.
What makes the Australian Tarmac Challenge different:
Firstly, the old system of Handicap and Outright Championships will go – and in comes a completely new system – Street Production, Club and Motorsport Championships. All three will have equal weighting and equal significance. Don’t want to bring the GT3 Porsche or the EVO IX MR? Bring the M3, the HSV Clubby, or even the Mazda 3 MPS instead – the Championships are designed to encourage anyone to enter and compete on-par with similar vehicles.
Secondly, the events have changed. Some dramatically, some only slightly. Our credo is to provide you with the most motorsport activity we can fit into 3 days at great venues, and this is what we will do. If its not a motorsport venue, we will make it one – and this will become evident as we progress through the 2009 Series.
The first event will be in Victoria- and the venues include Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, the now infamous Haunted Hillclimb in Morwell and the Moe DECA centre, and the unbelievable and challenging Holden test facility, at Lang Lang.
Second will be the NSW event. Gone are Wakefield Park and Canberra, the NSW event has completely changed for 2009. The event will begin in Sydney, make its way to Eastern Creek International Raceway for a day of competition, and then up the coast to Newcastle, Coffs Harbour, Grafton and finally the Tweed Coast where it will become and official part of the WRC event. WRC? Yes, the Dutton Tarmac Challenge competitors for NSW will officially compete on the WRC Super Special Stage – the same ones the WRC cars will use – of course all on Tarmac Roads. Combine some of Australia’s best hillclimbs, scenery and other bits of secret tarmac we have found along the way, and this makes the DTC NSW an event not to be missed in 2009!
Lastly, we will head to Western Australia for event 3, for more fun at Collie, Perth Motorplex, AHG and Barbagallo Raceway. Don’t think Perth will be tame though, we are aiming for a complete shakeup of Collie, Motorplex and AHG – think head to head, mate against mate timed challenges and you will start to get the idea.
Confirmed 2009 Dates are:
Event 1: Victoria 29-31 May
Event 2: New South Wales 3-6 September
Event 3: Western Australia 16-18 October
Now we know that some of you will be thinking that the 2009 Motorsport budget is not looking too good at the moment, and you might think that all this sounds great, but will probably cost more right? Well, WRONG! The 2009 Series will be even more affordable than ever with different events different costs, and our low-fat Tarmac Challenge Diet designed to make it more affordable for you without taking out any motorsport or any fun stuff. Some of the dinners have gone, but we have replaced these with 10pm presentations at local pubs each night. The media stuff will stay and we are looking at more ways to promote your sponsors online and with video footage, with more options for you to choose in each package.
So hang up the race boots and park the full-blown racing car. Steal the daily driver from the wife and come and have some fun with us!
We will be releasing pricing, packages and full schedules in the next week or so. Of course if you want to make a deposit to secure your entry now, don’t hesitate! We envisage 2009 will be a huge year – bring on the 2009 Australian Tarmac Challenge!
See you on the black stuff.
Cheers,
Anthony Moss
Series Director

Clean Sweep of Series for Gazzard and Beaumont
The third and final round of the Dutton Rally National Series was run over the weekend of 21-23 Nov, with Jeff Beaumont and Peter Gazzard taking out the final round in true style- a clean sweep! Gazzard took top Driver honors and Beaumont took the Co-Driver crown, made easy by the withdrawal of ultra-competitive Notaras/Finnimore who had engine problems on the last day. The NSW event marked the conclusion of the National Series for 2008, full results of the National Series to be announced shortly. We would like to thank all of the sponsors, competitors and staff who made the 2008 National Series one of the best ever, with a great turn out of vehicles across the three states. Stay tuned for an announcement on 2009 dates and Series information shortly. Big changes in store for 2009- including a completely new look and feel for the Series.

Audi Joins Dutton Rally Series
Audi Australia will support the Dutton Rally National Series, supplying the R8 sportscar and TTS Coupe’ as course cars for the NSW round which kicks off on Nov 21.
The R8, which accelerates from 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds, and has a 309kW mid-mounted 4.2 Litre V8, is truly up for the job as course car, and will surely be an attraction even for the hardest of rally competitors. The TTS Coupe’ is Audi’s ‘performance’ version of the TT, and sports a 200kW 4 cylinder turbo engine which accelerates from 0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds.
The third and final round of the National Series includes stages at Wakefield Park, Goulburn Airport, Sutton Rd Driving Complex and Fairbairn Park Hill Climb. The action-packed three-day schedule will conclude at Oran Park Raceway.
With cars ranging from $30,000 to $500,000 in value, The Dutton Rally has become the motorsport home of the performance car. Motoring enthusiasts from around Australia are realising that events like these have become the only place where entrants can drive their road cars to the limit competitively, safely, and with minimal modifications.
Each event is designed to be as fun and challenging as possible, with the safety of all competitors of paramount importance. One of the philosophies on which Dutton’s success has been founded is the full complement of support staff and safety vehicles and experienced technical personnel.
National Event Director Anthony Moss commented; “The rally is all about enjoying any kind of road car, regardless of its race or rally pedigree. I believe the range of cars entered so far in this year’s series gives further weight to the fact that these kinds of events are the future for domestic motoring enthusiasts. The Dutton Rally National Series is all about having fun with your car in safe and controlled environment. All that is required is your daily driver, your helmet, and let us do the rest!” Moss said.
The New South Wales round will be contested from November 21st to 23rd in various locations, beginning in regional Goulburn and concluding at Oran Park Raceway in Sydney which is being tipped as final farewell to the once great circuit.

Dutton Rally Series Off To A Competitive Start!

Dates released for Ultimate Nuburgring Tour, 2008!
Hope you are all well and back into it for 2008!
Just a short note to keep you updated with the progress of the Ultimate Nurburgring Tour.
Dates: We have a Date! I’m pleased to announce that the UNT 2008 will go ahead from the 17th to the 24th June, 2008.
Re the ‘Ring’ section of the tour, my last update stated that we would look to go with a dedicated track-day operator, but after many months of research and correspondence, this now looks unlikely. Due to the sheer popularity of the Nurburgring, the only dedicated UK track-day operator has its only dates available in March and November, both which I believe are too early and too late weather-wise for Germany at that time of year.

Mossy CAN drive....
Moss, who had never raced until the weekend, finished the round with one win and three 2nd places in the 4-race weekend.
In the 5th race of the weekend- The Hopwood 100 (not part of the round), Moss qualified third and was running in second place when a mechanical drama (fuel cap worked loose) saw Moss into the pit for a running repair. After picking off half the field to be back in contention, on the 20th lap the left rear wheel worked its way loose, resulting in a spectacular slide off the track, Moss parking the Kingwood for the race.
Apart from the drama's, Moss is now being touted as the next Lewis Hamilton, such is his driving talents.. albeit in a HQ Holden.

Tests were performed using a current model Mitsubishi Evo IX 2ltr turbocharged engine* mounted to an engine dynamometer cell. Tests were conducted using the standard Mitsubishi ECU and a MoTeC Plug In M800 ECU. No modifications were made to the engine.
The results of the testing clearly indicated that:
- Tuning of engines is required to obtain the maximum benefit from any fuel.
- There can be significant performance benefits to the fitting of a MoTeC Engine Control Unit (ECU), even without engine modifications.
- Shell V-Power Racing 100 Octane fuel consistently delivered significantly more torque (up to 10.7%) and engine horsepower (up to 4.6%) than other commercially available high octane fuels in the retail market.
In addition, limited testing of Aviation Fuel (Av Gas) was also carried out. Initial results showed that V-Power Racing was superior in its detonation resistance and able to make more power than the tested Av Gas.
